Sahra Nguyen a.k.a. NASH is a visual artist, performance poet and the First Lady of RIOT IN THE SKY. She was born and raised in Boston, Massachusetts then cultivated in Los Angeles, California. Sahra is running the legacy of Vietnamese parents who said, “FIGHT THE POWER!” and carried everything they believed in their hearts onto a boat for survival. She’s got that revolutionary-fighter-survivor-life-on-the-line-for-what-you-believe spirit in her blood. Whether it is through creating artwork, writing, performing, organizing or all forms of innovating. She hopes to inspire and challenge people to realize that life is far from linear and closer to infinity. We are still invincible.
VSAM Modern isn’t just a dance group – it’s a family. We grow along side one another expressing life through movement. Every year a new VSAM Modern is formed, but the roots of what we do and who we are remains the same. We all come together from different backgrounds/experiences and what ties us together is dance. Dance isn’t something you do, it’s something you have to feel – and to be able to share that experience with a group of peers is what makes it more memorable. We challenge each other mentally and physically. VSAM Modern shows people what dance, dedication, hard work, and friendship has to offer.
